Garden Cats

No litter box needed!

Do you have a yard that would make a safe home?

Some cats are not comfortable enough with people to become indoor pets. They are shy and nervous around people, but they still need safe outdoor spaces in which to live out their lives and need someone to love and care for them. Some of these cats, in time, may allow petting from a trusted person. Others will keep a safe distance but enjoy playing or sleeping in the garden while you are nearby.

These cats are looking for a home where they can live in safety and love you from a distance!

Requirements

  • A safe yard, free of pesticides and free of other pets that may not want them in their area.

  • Shelter from the rain, cold, and heat. This could be a cat or dog house or a raised porch.

  • Regular food and water. Make sure they always have access to water and feed them daily. This means you will need to get a pet sitter to feed while you are away.

  • Places to hide in the yard. This could be under decks, behind established plants, or other structures.

  • A home that will love them and treat them like pets.

We are partners with Contra Costa Animal Services (CCAS), which has a great garden cat program — they call them working cats and they do adoptions all around the Bay Area. Learn more about their program and submit an inquiry below.
